Interview : A feature on renowned French architect Fabrice Juan

Fabrice Juan’s work represents French living, an art that grows daily. Discover our recent article on Juan’s style, influences, and insights into what it takes to make that dream property.

Please introduce your agency and the types of projects that you and your team work on?

I set up my agency twelve years ago, and the team works mainly on residential projects for apartments and houses. I hope soon to be able to work on hotel design. I do a lot of design work on my projects. I have a collection of furniture that you can find under the signature “Fabrice Juan Éditions”.

What would you consider to be your architectural and design signature?

More and more, I think I have an identifiable architectural signature. The shapes and colors, which I like to use in my projects, allow me to personalize my signature, to give it a singular and distinctive identity. I also like to preserve that recognizable French touch with the play of moldings I like to interpret in my decors. “The art of of living”.

Do you have any design influences that inspire your work and style?

Yes, I’m very inspired by the 20th century. I love the period from the 40s through to the 70s. Architects like Carlo Scarpa, Ricardo Bofill or Jean Michel Frank are very inspiring, as are the designers Pierre Cardin or Angelo Mongiarotti. But I’m also interested in French cinema of the ’70s, the painting of Sonia Delaunay, Michel Herbin or Jean Dewasne.

What does luxury mean for you and your clients?

For me, this means having great freedom of creativity and imagination. My customers trust me and come to me more for the signature I can give to projects. My customers appreciate the comfort and the wide range of materials I offer.

How would you describe a turn-key property renovation?

The customer’s first impressions are important when entering a turnkey apartment. They must immediately feel at home. This renovation must contain a great deal of warmth and atmosphere, in addition to the technology we provide.

How long does an average residential high end property take to renovate in Paris?
For example a 2000 square ft, 3 bedroom?

In general, for this type of surface, it takes between 6 and 8 months for a complete delivery. That is, with all the decoration. Furniture, curtains, accessories, etc.

Aside from the accessories and furniture for sale on your site, it is possible to
order custom made furniture without having had an entire property renovated by you?

Yes, I very often work on projects where I’m not involved in the architecture, but in the art direction and decoration. I propose furniture from my collection, but I also propose new pieces designed especially for the project and therefore exclusive.
